The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) will like to remind the General public that the 2023 Olympic Day celebration will hold on Saturday, June 24.
The event has been scheduled to run through one of the NOC Commissions – The Sports –For –All.
It reminded the Public that the 21 states of the federation have entered to stage this year’s Olympic Day Run.
The States are, Anambra, Edo, Bayelsa, Kebbi, Yobe, Kwara, Ondo, Gombe, Sokoto, Ogun, Osun, FCT, Jigawa, Taraba, Delta, Oyo, Sokoto, Kano, Imo, Nasarawa, Kogi and Borno.
According to Tony Nezianya, the Public Relations Officer of NOC, the celebration will hold on June 24, 2023.
It has been planned as a special day to promote the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect as enunciated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) over the years.
This years’s event will be celebrated on moving under the slogan, ‘’Let’s Move’,
‘’The aim is to encourage people to be physically active for at least 30 minutes a day, corresponding to the minimum time recommended by the World Health Organization for good health.’’
Olympic Day has always been celebrated by our NOC with fanfare nationwide, even though the scope was limited a few years back during the outbreak of COVID ’19 Pandemic.
This year will not an exception as many States are already preparing to organise the programme in their various States.
According to the NOC Secretary-General, Babatunde Popoola, he said that the States that have already named 21, while other States are being expected to indicate an interest.
The coordinators — Sport For All Commission promises that the programme will witness one of the most successful events in view of the fact that this is the first time almost all the States of the federation will be organising this global programme in their domains.
In Anambra, their celebration is coinciding with the grand final of its resuscitated Grassroots age group Sports Solution initiative being run by Patrick Estate Onyedum, Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Development Commission. Gov. CC Soludo would grace the occasion.
In Lagos where our NOC head office is located, a series of physical fitness and recreational activities will be organized, including aerobic exercises, jogging and demonstration event. The celebration will be
Concluded with presentation of Diplomas signed by the President of the International Olympic
Committee.
The President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel and other dignitaries will flag-off the event.
NOC encourages corporate and philanthropic individuals to donate financially or support us with their products given the mileage it will give to the company.
