The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State says PDP’s dream of winning the state in 2023 general elections remains a mere day-dream which is unrealistic.
The state Publicity Secretary, Mr Seye Oladejo, made this remark in a statement on Thursday in Lagos while reacting to a report credited to PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, that the opposition party would win Lagos state and other 25 states in 2023 general elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Ayu, who expressed the confidence when he received the second stanza of the report of the PDP Special Reconciliation Committee for Lagos and Osun on Wednesday in Abuja, said Lagos State was looking very promising for the opposition party to win.
Oladejo said: “Our attention has been drawn to the reckless and unrealistic claim of the opposition PDP to win Lagos and 25 other states in the forthcoming elections.
“While we acknowledge the consistency of the opposition party in its permanent day-dreaming and irresponsible permutations, it’s advisable to be more discerning in order to be able to absorb the shock of their impending devastating defeat.
“It’s also laughable. Nigerians stopped taking PDP seriously before now with its intransigent crisis which is a clear reflection of poor leadership and ability to manage its affairs.”
The ruling party spokesman said that PDP which had been in crisis since its presidential primaries could not lay claim to integrity, hope and vision.
“It’s certainly not enough to dream of winning a certain number of states, the reality on ground is in total contrast.
“Lagos state remains an impenetrable fortress for PDP with its more than two decades of electoral abysmal performance,” he added.
Oladejo said that Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu had earned his place of pride and preference by well meaning Lagos residents to consolidate on the landmark achievements of the first term in the next tenure.
According to him, PDP at whatever level does not constitute a threat to the APC’s retention of power in Lagos state and at the center.
“Nigeria will certainly not go back to the years of the locust.
“In any electoral process, talk is cheap but the real language of communication is the PVC.
“The PDP has no reason to be hopeful,” Oladejo said.
