The Alex Otti Foundation on Saturday offered scholarships to 26 Abia indigent students in different tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Mr Chinedu Ekeke, the Executive Director of the foundation, said at the award ceremony in Umuahia that the beneficiaries were selected on merit.
Ekeke said that they were tested in different fields by a team of local and foreign consultants.
He said that the scheme was established as part of the foundation’s effort to assist bright, but indigent students to accomplish their educational pursuits.
He said that the organisation would pay their tuition fees from when the scholarship took effect until their graduation.
Ekeke said that part of the conditions was that the beneficiaries must maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.5 for those in the universities and 2.8 for those in polytechnics and colleges of education.
In a speech, Dr Alex Otti, said that he set up the scholarship because of his love for education and its transformational power.
Otti urged the beneficiaries to develop critical minds that would help them to surmount future challenges of life.
“Our expectation is to have from among you, top career men and women, successful business owners, technology giants, great researchers, professors and others.
“You need to, therefore, push yourself harder and not rest on your oars,” he said.
Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Miss Chidinma Nwatu thanked Otti for the kind gesture.
Nwatu, who is studying Computer Science at the University of Ibadan, said that the scholarship had further encouraged them to go for their dreams.
Otti is the Labour Party Gubernatorial Candidate for the 2023 general elections in Abia.
The event was attended by other candidates of the party and their teeming supporters.
