Chioma Emma-Ibegbu’ the Chess champion

Asaba, Nigeria – Chioma Emma-Ibegbu, a gold medal winner in the female chess event at the ongoing National Youth Games (NYGA) in Asaba, has said the sport is good for the development of mental capacity.

Emma-Ibegbu who spoke after receiving her gold medal at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, on Tuesday, said she was excited to win for her state as a second time contestant.

According to her, Chess is a game that is good for the mental capacity of the player, it helps in decision making and taking responsibility, so you have to calculate well because one move can spoil the effort.

“It feels exciting to win gold, I am happy to win it this time around because I was here last year but I came to come fourth,” she said.

Emma-Ibegbu said she had immense passion for chess and expressed the willingness to play the game to the world stage if supported.

Meanwhile, Anambra female
Volleyball team defeated Team Kaduna 3-0 to win gold in the female Volleyball event.

The Anambra girls beat their opponents in three sets of 25-19, 25-12, 25-18, to increase the state’s total gold tally so far to seven.

Ndudi Ijeomah, Coach of Anambra Volleyball team, commended the players for retaining the gold they won in 2023, saying God made it possible.

Ijeomah expresses gratitude to Gov. Chukwuma Soludo for giving the children the opportunity to exhibit their skills as well as Patrick-Estate Onyedum, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission, for providing the leadership in the sector.
