President Bola Tinubu has conferred the prestigious title of Member of the Order of Nigeria (MON) on Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles.

The event took place at the State House Council Chambers in Abuja.

The Nigerian leader received the Super Eagles on Tuesday in Abuja, barely 48 hours after they battled unsuccessfully for the top spot in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations against the host country, Côte d’Ivoire.

Persecondnews reports that all team members and officials were in attendance and were gifted one flat each and a plot of land in the FCT.

The Super Eagles lost 2-1 to the host Ivory Coast in the finals of the 2023 African Nations Cup on Sunday.

After the game, President Tinubu saluted the Super Eagles for their tenacious performance in the final of the Nations Cup.

“Let this passing event not dispirit us but bring us together to work harder. We are a great nation bound as one by the green-white-green banner of resilience, joy, hope, duty, and untiring love.

“To those cherished Nigerian youths expressing their gifts in communities, drawing lines in the sand as they play football in their humble rectangles of play, you can be our heroes tomorrow; do not relent in your pursuit. My administration is here to make dreams come true,” the president said.
