Prince Orekha’s journey towards environmental advocacy began with a strong educational foundation. He attended the National Open University of Nigeria, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education, with a major in environmental resource management and care.
His commitment to continuous learning led him to pursue further studies at the University of Cambridge, where he obtained a Cambridge International Diploma in IT Skills.
Additionally, he attended the James Lind Institute to pursue a Master of Science in Environmental Economics and Policy (in view) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to obtain a Certificate in Environmental Governance.
Professional Journey
Prince Orekha’s professional career has been marked by a series of impactful roles and achievements.
Currently serving as the Executive Director of Connected Advocacy for Empowerment & Youth Development Initiative, based in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, he has been instrumental in building a team dedicated to local policy implementation and capacity development for marginalized communities.
His efforts have focused on strengthening intergenerational partnerships and facilitating technology transfer for sustainable clean energy transitions.
In addition to his work with Connected Advocacy, Prince Orekha has been actively involved in various international initiatives.
He served as a campaigner for UN-Action 2015, contributing to the global campaign for social justice.
Furthermore, as the West Africa Regional Coordinator for UN – Youth Employment Decade in Africa, he has played a pivotal role in coordinating programmes implementation across 15 countries in the region, with a focus on empowering youths through employment opportunities.

As a co-convener of the Africa-Europe International Forum for Sustaining Democracy & Human Rights, he has worked tirelessly to promote democratic values and human rights on the international stage.

Prince Orekha has represented local community positions at various international fora, including the Conference of the Parties (COPs) and the Africa Climate Summit.
Notably, he organized the Niger Delta Climate Change Exhibition in London and participated in COP 26 in Glasgow, where he presented local community perspectives on environmental justice.
At COP27 in Egypt, Orekha brought to the front burner the story of environmental pollution and its impact on local community.
Also at the recently concluded COP28 in Dubai, he shared the great concerns of local community exclusion from climate action discussion.
This prompted him and his team to organise the Local Community Summit on oil Divestment and environmental justice in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
Prince Orekha is currently leading a campaign called #SaveNigerDeltaEnvironmentNow.
Today he will be speaking on a panel at the People’s Summit Vienna Austria on “Roots Resistance: Africa Voices on Environmental Activism, gaps , challenges and opportunities.”
Research and Publications
In addition to his advocacy work, Prince Orekha is a prolific researcher and author.
His research focuses on “The Global Politics of Deep Decarbonization and Community Participation in Environmental Governance: Scaling Up Net Zero Intervention in Africa.”
He is also the editor of “The Fix Climate Crisis Now: The Story from Africa,” a publication aimed at raising awareness and driving action on climate issues.
