The Catholic Church, on Saturday, tutored youths against same sex union and the hidden consequences of abortion.
The training that drew students from schools around Ejigbo, Akowonjo, Isheri and Idimu area of Lagos State, was to equip the younger ones on how to navigate through the teenage stage of uncertainty.
The event, held at the Saint Peters Catholic Church, Ejigbo, was organised by the Region 4 of the Knight of St Mulumba of the Lagos Metropolitan Council.
The theme of the event, was “Prolife Walk for Life Rally, “Every Woman for Every Child”
It was one of the group’s youths social reform programme to keep the people on track.
The Resource Person, Rev. Fr. Moses Ojobo, said that the consequences of abortion were weighty on the part of the perpetrator and the society.
The priest pointed that, abortion could lead to death, infection, social stigma, halt in the educational career and physical deformity of the person.
According to him young girls should do away with acts that can lead them into thinking of an abortion to remain pride of family and society.
“You have nothing to lose when you maintain chastity and abstainance till marriage.
“The Church and society frowns at it therefore discard with attractions and baits that can lure you into sex before marriage for it is not meant for you,” he said.
He cautioned against the influx of some Western culture that tended to ascribe same sex union, warned the younger people to disregard such, saying it was at variance with the teachings of the scriptures.
Also speaking at the event, the anchor of the event, Lady Beta Nwaosu, asked the girls if they were ready to be mothers while in school, which they responded with a resounding no.
Nwaosu, tasked the girls to be of good behaviour and resist acts that could pre-dispose them to underaged pregnancy that would make them result to abortion as an option.
She charged them not to keep silent to circumstances and situations where they could fall victim of sexual exploitation by anyone.
According to her, you should raise an alarm, seek counseling and complain to elderly that knows better ways to assist them out of the woods before it becomes late.
Newsmen reports that, the girls asked sexually related questions that shows they lacked the knowledge on ways and means to handle issues of sexual harassment and rape.
