The sad report that for the umpteenth time that armed terrorists have on Saturday night invaded Dutse, near the city centre of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under Bwari Area Council, during which time the daredevil terrorists kidnapped at least five FCT residents, has been condemned as reprehensible, despicable and absolutely condemnable just as the Police commissioner of FCT Mr. Beneth Nwigweh has been told by the HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) to stop media propaganda and put measures in place to secure the Federal Capital Territory.
Besides, the leading civil Rights Advocacy group: HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has demanded that the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun should tell Nigerians what has become of the special anti-banditry squad he recently set up amidst pomp and pageantry just as the Rights group wondered where the entire machinery of the security architecture that ought to secure the nation’s Federal Capital Territory have gone to including the Army, the Department of State Services, the Civil Defence Corps of Nigeria. HURIWA said the continuous breaches of security by armed terrorists in the nation’s Capital is symptomatic of the collapse of national security which must never become a tolerable pastime.
The Rights group in a media statement by the National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, quoted media reports as stating that armed bandits invaded the community through the hilly part that links the area to Mpape, another community within the FCT even as it was gathered that the bandits arrived at the Mango Tree area, New Jerusalem part of Duste at about 8pm on Saturday.
HURIWA said a resident of the area who does not want her name in print, said those living in the area could not sleep till daybreak as a result of fear. The source said: “They came around 8pm. One woman, three men and two boys were kidnapped.
“One of the boys, who is three years old, was found in the bush today (Sunday) morning. The mother of the two boys that were among those kidnapped were beaten by the kidnappers. She is currently at the hospital receiving treatment.”
“We urge the honourable minister of FCT to focus exclusively on providing the needed and urgent social and security services to the good people of Abuja and play less of partisan and confusing politics of APC/PDP.”
“The FCT is the seat of the government of the federation and whatever happens here is presumed to have happened everywhere in the Country. If President Bola Ahmed Tinubu can’t provide fool-proof security all round the clock in the small FCT, how can he convince anyone that he is in charge and that he is the Commander-In-Chief of the armed forces of the federation.”
“The ugly truth is that the government in Abuja have deployed more armed security forces paid by the taxpayers to just the few political elite in the National Assembly, the ministers and the Presidency whilst allowing armed terrorists to terrorise and unleash violence on the undefended civilian populace. We advocated for enhanced and Liberal armed licences so sane adults in the Country can own weapons of military grades to counter the firepower of the well armed terrorists, but the central government prefers that the common people of Nigeria should go through this torture of constant attacks by all kinds of armed non-state actors.”
