NUSA uncovers falsehood behind viral video of 2 South African women allegedly killed in Nigeria

London, May 13, 2024: The Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) says it has diligently investigated the disturbing video circulating in South Africa, purportedly showing the attack and killing of two South African women in Nigeria and found it to be false.

The union made the assertion in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Habib Miller, on Monday.

Miller said NUSA’s thorough examination of the footage had revealed that it was originally posted in October 2022 on a blog site and had no connection to Nigeria or South Africa.

“In fact, the video depicts two women being subjected to violence for alleged theft in Uganda.

“It is crucial to emphasise that a voiceover was maliciously added to the video, fabricating claims that the women were murdered in retaliation for Nigerian men killed in South Africa due to involvement in drug dealing.

“We unequivocally denounce these false assertions and condemn any attempt to fuel violence and hatred.

“Furthermore, the voiceover irresponsibly urged South African women to cease relationships with Nigerian men, perpetuating harmful and discriminatory stereotypes,’’ Miller said..

He said that NUSA had implored the public to exercise caution and refrain from spreading unverified information, as it could have detrimental consequences and exacerbate tensions.

“We also call on law enforcement agents to investigate the source of the fake video and bring the culprits to book.

“We extend our gratitude to our communities for their steadfast support in fostering an inclusive and peaceful environment for all.’’
