The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to meet with the sub-committees on negotiation and sign the agreement reached with them.
Prof. Emmanuel Osekede, the ASUU President said this on Tuesday in Abuja.
The president in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, said “truly, enough is enough for keeping students at home.’’
The sub-committee was set up to negotiate between the government and striking university workers.
The committees were also to submit their reports, to enable Mr President to be briefed fully and for decisions to be taken on the contentious payment platform and the renegotiation.
According to Osedeke, I do not understand why Mr President said that “enough is enough’’ when we are not the ones delaying the students at home.
“The Federal Government had sent its teams to negotiate with us, and we have finished with them and instead of coming back to us to tell us the outcome of the meeting, we are hearing this.
“If you set up a committee to negotiate on your behalf, and the committee has finished and they have brought the information to you to sign and then you said enough is enough, what does this mean,’’ he asked.
He, however, said that he had confirmed the submission of the report to Mr President from the Chairman, Prof. Nimi Briggs-led committee.
Osedeke also added that it had been almost a month now since they had submitted the report and we are yet to hear anything.
“We want to call on Mr President to meet the negotiation teams and sign the report, ’’he said.
ASUU among other unions in the education sector had been on strike nationwide strike since Feb. Â 14.
The striking workers’ demands include the adoption of University Transparency and Accountability Solutions (UTAS) as its payment platform, conditions of service and wage increase, among others.
While, both the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and other Allied Institutions (NASU) have requested the adoption of the University Peculiar Payroll Payment System (U3PS).
