Awka, June 15, 2024 – Finidi George, recently appointed as the Nigerian Super Eagles coach, has resigned.

His resignation comes as a major surprise after the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the search for a foreign Technical Adviser following a poor run in the World Cup Qualifiers (WCQ).

The NFF and the Minister for sports had summoned Finidi to a meeting earlier this week after Nigeria lost to Benin Republic in the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers, denying the country of a smooth sail to securing a place in the world cup.

The former Nigerian international confirmed his resignation to Channels Television, “Yes, it is true. I have resigned,” he wrote in response to enquiries.

However, no official statement has been released by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to confirm his resignation.

Similarly, there is no official reasons behind this shocking decision of resignation, although it might be connected to his abysmal performance within few weeks of engagement.

His salary was also reportedly reduced as he failed to meet up to expectations.

Ex-Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye confirmed the news in a post on X formerly Twitter on Saturday.

He wrote, “News just in. Finidi George #FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his #NGSuperEagles manager position.”
