Awka – The Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), designed to Anambra relatively clean, has arrested the owner of a fake drug store for operating a fake drug production factory in the state.

This follows a raid on their factory in Umuoji in Idemili North Council Area, where the factory owner, Mrs Chinwedu Chukwurah, was also apprehended.

According to Comrade Celestine Anere, the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, the agency stumbled upon the fake drug factory during their daily routine.

The owner was arrested for manufacturing, packaging, distributing, and selling a range of substandard and counterfeit paracetamol and flagyl products.

OCHA Brigade also discovered that the company had been operating for years, selling counterfeit drugs across the state.

“Gov. Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is tackling public health threats and ensuring the safety of residents.

“The raid is a clear indication of the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards activities that endanger public health and the welfare of the people.

“Consequently, we have involved the State Ministry of Health and the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in the raid to stamp out this menace.

“They have commenced investigations into the fake drugs manufactured and the factory’s license has been impounded.

“The facility has been sealed off until further notice,” he said.
