Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), has mourned the sudden demise of Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams, the Chair of the House Committee on Sports.
Gumel, who is also, Nigeria’s member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) described Adams’ passing as a significant loss for the country.
A statement released by Tony Nezianya, the Public Relations Officer of NOC notes that the late Chairman, who represented the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna on the Labour Party (LP) platform, passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 39.
Before entering the House of Representatives, the late Ekene Adams had a deep involvement in sports development at the grassroots level.
He had previously served as the General Manager of Kada City Football Club, Kaduna and Remo Stars FC in Ìjẹ̀bú Ode at different times.
It was likely due to his prior experience and connections in the sports sector that his colleagues elected him as the Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, even as a newcomer to the Parliament.
Gumel expressed his condolences, stating that the late Adams’ contributions to the country’s sports development would be greatly missed.
The NOC President highlighted the significant impact Adams had made in his short but impactful career, and pledged the committee’s support to his family during this difficult time.
