Gabriel Lawal, the 23-year-old tricycle rider, who allegedly knocked down a police officer as a result of his reckless driving and causing the victim serious injury was Thursday docked in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The rider, who resides at No 4, Akinwumi St., Odo-pako, Alagbado Lagos, was docked by the on a charge of reckless driving, driving without a rider’s card and dangerous driving.
The prosecutor, Insp. Samuel Mishozunnu told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 3, at 8.00 p.m., Along Kola Bus Stop, Alagbado, Lagos.
“The defendant drove a tricycle with registration number RAD 667 QJ, in a reckless manner and hit a police officer DSP Jokotola Akinfolarin, on her way back from office.
“The incident caused severe bodily injuries to her and was immediately rushed to the hospital.
“The defendant drove the tricycle in a dangerous manner without a rider’s card or concern for road users,” Mishozunnu said.
According to the prosecutor, the offence is punishable under Section 50(1), 12 and 51 of the Road Traffic Law Acts of Lagos State, 2012.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. O Kolola, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000, with one surety in like sum.
Kolola adjourned the case until Aug.15, for a hearing.
