The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra has urged road users to take responsibility for their safety to avoid road accident and stay alive.

The Sector Commander of the corps, Mrs Joyce Alexander made the call at the 37th Customers Service Week celebration with the theme ‘Above and Beyond’, on Wednesday in Awka.

The Customer service week marked from Oct. 7 to Oct.11, is an international celebration that calls attention to the importance of customer service and the people who provide the service.

Alexander said: “Every motorist is an adult who knows what is right or wrong and does not need the enforcement from FRSC officials to do what is right to make our roads safe and accident free.

“You see that when people travel to other countries, they obey the traffic rules but when they are in Nigeria they can not apply same, why?

“It means people know what they are doing. FRSC will continue to create safe motoring environment but a road user should understand that your safety is your absolute responsibility, ” she said.

Alexander highlighted preventing or minimising accident, clearing obstruction, educating motorists and the public on road safety, producing driver’s licence and number plates as some of the services rendered by the corps.

“We carry out patrol activities, prompt response to road emergencies, rescue operation and free safety checks without enforcement. All these efforts has helped to reduces crashes on our roads.

“Also, clearing of backlog on driver’s licence production, recommendation to state government to fix bad spots on the road and partnership with relevant stakeholders, are the effective service delivery for customers satisfaction,” she said.

The FRSC appreciated the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) with a commendation letter for its constant availability in media coverage in almost all FRSC activities in Anambra state.

Staff of the Corps and other stakeholders in the transport sector were also recognised as part of celebrating customer service week.
