Ex- Rangers International FC Players on Wednesday commended Gov Chukwuma Soludo for the payment of N100,000 monthly allowance to each former player of the team.

Jeo-Martins Uzodike, patron of the ex Rangers players association expressed his gratitude while speaking to newsmen in Awka.

Uzodike also appreciated the Governor for paying the medical bills of one of their team members, late Kenneth Abana who was buried in Nri, Anaocha Local Government of Anambra on Oct. 11.

He said: “Since March this year, Gov. Soludo was paying the medical bills of late Abana until his death. Without Soludo’s assistance Abana would have died long before now.

“The Governor also started paying each ex-player a N100,000 monthly allowance, irrespective of state of origin.

“Former Gov. Peter Obi started the payment of N10,000 allowance and former Gov. Willie Obiano continued it, but Gov Soludo increased it to N100,000. The exciting thing is that it does not matter the state you come from.

“Rangers International Football Club was the team for the old Eastern Nigeria and now that the zone has more states the governor has continued to pay the ex-player the allowance.”

Uzodike said Gov.Soludo is the only Governor who chose to celebrate the heroes of the football club, even in death, in the history of the country.

“We have seen instances where our sportsmen and women, who brought glory to this country in their youth, are celebrated while they compete but forgotten once they leave the field,” he said.

“However, what Soludo is doing today offers tremendous motivation for the younger generation to proudly represent our country in any field of endeavor. We urge other governors to follow his example,” he said.
