30-year-old Man In Court For Allegedly Possessing Fire Arms

A 30-year old man, Oriyomi Ibrahim, arrested by the police for possessing locally made weapons, was arraigned in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan for allegedly intending to commit crime with the weapons.

Ibrahim, whose residential address was not provided, was charged with unlawful possession of gun and five live cartridges.

The Prosecutor, Mr Philip Amusan, told the court that Ibrahim allegedly committed the offence on Sept. 24, at about 1.00 p.m., at Ibadan/Eruwa road, Ibadan.

Amusan alleged that the defendant unlawfully possessed the weapons with intent to use same to commit felony within the area.

He alleged that Ibrahim could not give satisfactory account of the weapons.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 417(D) of the Criminal laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. A Akande, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 and one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Nov. 7, for hearing.

Similarly, the police arraigned six applicants and a minor in an Upper Area court in Karu. Abuja for allegedly constituting nuisance.

The police charged Dauda Abdullahi, 19; Emmanuel Edeh, 30; Ojobo Mathias, 29; Philip John, 51; Desire Okon, 30; Henry Elias, 24 and a minor with constituting nuisance after Injunction to discontinue.

The Prosecution Counsel, Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Sept.18, in Nyanya area of Abuja.

He said the patrol team attached to the Nyanya police station, Abuja, while patrolling around blackspots in Nyanya, arrested the defendants.

During police investigation, he said, the defendants could not give satisfactory explanation on what they were all doing at the blackspot.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 179 of the Penal Code.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The Judge, Malam Hassan Mohammed, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N20, 000 each with one surety in like sum.

Mohammed ordered that the surety must live within the court jurisdiction, provide National I.D card and Drivers’ license which should be deposited to the court and address verified by court officer.

The Judge adjourned the case until Nov. 3 for mention.
