The World Chamber for Social Business (WCSB) has inaugurated the Nigerian chapter to achieve the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (UNSDGs) and create a sustainable impact at scale.
The Chamber announced the inauguration of Mr Akin Alabi as the Chapter’s Head for Nigeria in a statement on Monday in Lagos.
Agency reports that the World’s First Chamber for Social Business was constituted exclusively to nurture, unite, and encourage social businesses globally with a vision towards an emerging Fourth Sector.
Since its launch in September, the Chamber has been working on building strategic plans for the chapter and its members.
The Chamber has commenced operations in 21 countries from 3 continents and is starting chapters in 75 countries by the end of the year.
About 84 Change Leaders and Think Tanks from various fields have been onboarded as Councils of Change.
“Africa being a focus for the Chamber, Nigeria plays a crucial role in unifying all the social entrepreneurs and stakeholders who wish to contribute, impact investors and governments to achieve the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (UNSDGs), and create a sustainable impact at scale.”
Ms Ronita Ghosh, Founder and President of WCSB, said “the choice of Alabi as the Nigerian Head of the chamber is based on his revolutionising contribution to the growth of the agriculture sector and promotion of sustainability.
Ghosh said Alabi began revolutionising agriculture for the youth with his award-winning blog, the Corporate Farmers Blog, which transformed agriculture outlook to Nigerian youths.
This has metamorphosed Into Corporate Farmers International, Nigeria, he said.
It added that the last few years provided an impetus for entrepreneurs to rethink their business models to operate with the purpose of sustainable financial growth.
“Thus, the business case for creating the Fourth Sector and supporting social entrepreneurs contributing to the job economy, has never been stronger.
With Alabi at the helm of our Nigeria Chapter, we are confident of not just achieving our objective to create one million social businesses globally by 2023 to fulfil the UN Sustainability Development Goals 2030, but even surpassing them,” Ghosh said.
The World Chamber for Social Business and Corporate Farmers International, Nigeria, are united in the shared vision of creating scalable livelihood opportunities by supporting social businesses.
The partnership optimises both organizations’ rich expertise to develop a rigorous, hands-on acceleration programme for social businesses across Nigeria and expand throughout Africa.
