2 in court over alleged stealing of truck parts

Two men, Aliyu Momoh, 48 and Aminu Robilu, 32, were, on Tuesday, arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing parts of a truck, valued at N180,000.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the stolen parts were some length of wire and the truck’s tank cover.

The defendants, who are both scavengers and are being tried for conspiracy and stealing, reside at Katangowa market, Abule-Egba, Lagos.

The Prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed on Oct. 29, 2022 at 24, Abubakar Ala St., Katangowa, Abule-Egba, Lagos.

Akeem said that the first defendant stole the items, property of AMAZUMA Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited.

Akeem said that the first defendant was caught by one of the company’s drivers who raised the alarm to alert others within the vicinity.

The prosecutor said that the first defendant told the police that he usually sells whatever he stole to the second defendant.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 287, 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

While the first defendant pleaded guilty to the charges, the second defendant pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, granted the second defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi, however, ordered that the first defendant be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre until Feb. 27 for judgment. (NAN)
