A clergy, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Odunaiya, on Monday in Lagos, urged Nigerians, especially the youths to ensure that they get their Permanent Voter Card (PVC) for the forthcoming General Elections.
Odunaiya gave the advice during his speech at the colloquium to mark the 2022 Democracy Day celebration, organized by the Justice, Development and Peace Commission (JDPC).
108scoop reports that the democracy day celebration was held at the Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).
The theme of the event is “Prebendal Politics, Challenges of National Consensus: Election as a Galvanizing Force for Social Transformation”.
Odunaiya, who spoke on the ‘Role of the Youths in the emergence of a New Nigeria’, appealed to every young people, saying they had a role to play in making the country better.
He added that the country had over the years suffered from different forms of hardship, adding that it is time for the youths to stop acting as spectators.
He enjoined everyone to set aside tribal or religion differences and come together as one to make Nigeria great.
Earlier, Mr Dele Farotimi, who gave the keynote speech, also appealed to the youths and every other Nigerian to exercise their rights at the forthcoming elections.
He appealed to Nigerians to vote and ensure that their vote counts, adding that Nigeria could not be better by just talking but by ensuring that everyone gets their PVC to vote.
Mr Olusegun Agbaje, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in his remarks, called for the support of everyone’s in ensuring a peaceful, free and fair election.
He said that the commission could not do it alone, while appealing to the youths not to be used for electoral violence during the coming elections.
