Why man in court for allegedly stealing motorcycle

Shamefully, a 33-year-old man, Abdulwaheed Akanni, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle worth N380,000.

Akanni, whose address was not provided, was charged with stealing but pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp. Christian Okonofua, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 1, at about 6.00 a.m., on Ekuji Borokinni Street, Aga area of Ikorodu.

Okonofua said the motorcycle was marked No. FST 367 QM belonged to one Mr Odeyemi Ibrahim.

He said the offence contravened Section 280(1)(b) and was punishable under section 187 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 287 stipulates three years jail term for stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs T. A. Shotobi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said that the addresses of the sureties must be verified, and adjourned the case till March 23 for the mention.
