For allegedly raping a 75-year-old woman, who is old enough to be his mother, a 30-year-old man, Sunday Nwadiagha is now telling the Police in Anambra on how he perpetrated the devilish act.
The Police Command in Anambra, said in a press statement the suspect, who hailed from Eyiba area of Ebonyi, was arrested about 4:00 p.m. on Friday, at Nkwelle Awkuzu community.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Anambra, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was caught in the act at the victim’s farm in Nkwelle Awkuzu.
“The suspect’s arrest followed an alarm raised by the old woman, which attracted the attention of passers-by and neighbours who rushed to the scene and caught the culprit,” he stated.
Ikenga added that before his arrest and handover to the police, an angry mob had already gathered and beaten Nwadiagha to a pulp.
The PPRO, however, said both the victim and the suspect had been taken to the hospital for medical attention.
According to the spokesman, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Echeng Echeng, has reiterated the command’s campaign against mob action by members of the public, who always take the laws into their hands by administering jungle justice on suspected criminals.
“The public should endeavour to take such suspects to the nearest police station whenever they are apprehended.
“This would afford the police the opportunity to conduct appropriate investigations into the nefarious activities of suspects; and bring them to justice in accordance with extant laws,” Ikenga stated.
Man punches mother of 2 to death
Ebube Oba, a 30-year old man, was on Sunday arrested by the Police Command in Anambra for an alleged murder of his neighbour, Mrs Uzomaka Ekpe.
This is coming less than 24 hours after the arrest of 30 years old man for raping a septuagenarian.
The 75-year-old woman is old enough to be the mother of Sunday Nwadiagha, who is now telling the Police on how he perpetrated his devilish act.

DSP Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer said that Oba was apprehended after he allegedly killed his neighbour and mother of two at Nkpor Agu area of Ogidi, Anambra.
The statement, made available to news men on Sunday in Awka, noted that the suspect, residing at Ugochukwu lane Nkpor Agu, Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra, was lurked in a quarrel with late Mrs Ekpe at about 4.33 p.m. on Saturday.
Ikenga said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and the deceased, during the quarrel, exchanged blows, when the suspect gave fisticuffs to the woman which resulted to her death.
Preliminary information revealed that “Ebube hit Mrs Uzomaka Ekpe on the chest and face with fist blows before she collapsed.
“She was rushed to the hospital and was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.
“The body of late Mrs Ekpe had been deposited to the morgue, while the suspect is in police custody for further investigation, after which the case will be charged to court.” he said.
Ikenga however stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Echeng Echeng, advised residents of the state to learn how to control their anger in the face of quarrels.
In another development, the command said it rescued a kidnap victim and recovered two vehicles about on Saturday at Ezinifite, Aguata area of the state.
“Police Operatives at about 4 p.m. on June 25, rescued an abducted victim and recovered one Lexus 350 Salon with Registration number EPE 316 HE and Ford SUV with Registration number; GGE 769 FT on Ezinifite road, Aguata.
“The victim was abducted in the early hours of Saturday at Nwanchi village, Agulu, Snapchat area of the state.
“The abductors forced the victim inside the booth of his Lexus and took off but Police on receipt of the information, intensified patrols and re-strategised on operational positioning within the area.
“This made the hoodlums abandon the victim, his vehicle, their operational vehicle and fled.”
He said his boss Echeng, had assured that the confidence reposed in the police on protection of lives and property, maintenance of law and order would never be taken for granted.
