The Department of State Services (DSS) has disclosed that it obtained a court order to detain the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa.
Recall that the DSS had arrested and detained Bawa since his suspension on June 14 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The suspended anti-corruption agency boss has remained in the custody of the secret police without trial or arraignment.
His continued detention without trial has drawn the attention of civil society organisations and several Nigerians, who are accusing the DSS of violating the rule of law at will.
But speaking with The Whistler on Sunday, a legal representative of the DSS in several court proceedings, I. Awo revealed that Bawa’s detention is backed by a court.
“There is a Court Order backing his detention,” Awo said in a short message to the platform.
Naija News reports that the DSS is also detaining the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
The secret police have charged the embattled suspended CBN governor over the illegal possession of firearms.
