Abakaliki Social Club members celebrate new Yam Festival

Abakaliki, Nigeria – The Chairman of the Eternal Brothers Club.Board of Trustees (BOT), Richard Idike, has said that the club is grateful to God for enriching its members and bringing unquantifiable progress to the club.

Idike who is also the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports in Ebonyi, made the assertion on Friday during the club”s New Yam Celebration held at its headquarters in Abakaliki.

The BOT chairman said that the club comprises people of calibre in the state who promote love and friendliness among themselves.

“We are grateful to God for enriching us with his blessings and bountiful harvest as we are serious-minded people who don’t take things for granted.

“You can see our appearance: pure and immaculate and this reflects our minds towards one another and commitment to do what is right.”

He commended the club’s President, Charles Akpu-enika, for his visionary leadership, noting that the executive he is leading has done tremendously well.

“I nearly missed my way to the club’s headquarters due to the unimaginable, massive infrastructural outlook it has adorned.

“This place was not like this four months ago and this is a typical, practical case of seeing is believing.”

Akpu-enika said the event is held annually to thank God for his mercies and protection while affording members opportunities to convivalence.

“We have celebrated the new yam with our brothers across the state and this is the time to celebrate ours.

“The members are united in love, oneness and progress and this opportunity is entrenched dearly in the club’s annals.”

Akpu-enika, who is the immediate past commissioner for youth development and sports in Ebonyi state, attributed the massive infrastructural works at the club’s headquarters to the co-operation of its executive and members.

“I dedicate the feat we have recorded to the members who offset their dues, levies and other financial obligations.

“Without them, we could not have received these recommendations and I pray that God continues to bless and protect them.”

He thanked the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, for his love towards the club and his Predecessor and current Minister of Works, David Umahi, for his mentorship.

“I see the encomiums being poured on me as a direct reflection of the tutulage I received under Umahi”.

An Executive Member of the Club, Nnamdi Onyedika, noted that the club will continue to grow in strength as the members were committed to see to its continued progress.

Members who spoke during the event were unanimous in their commitment, to ensure that the club continues to grow in leaps and bounds, maintaining its high status in the society.
