A popular Kannywood actress, Hadiza Gabon has been taken to a Shari’a Court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna for refusing to marry her fiancé, Bala Musa, a 48-year-old civil servant.
The complainant told the court that he had been in a relationship with the actress for a long while and she had promised to marry him.
“So far I had spent N396, 000 on her; anytime she asks for money, I send it to her without hesitation with the hope that we will marry.
“There was a time she told me she would be coming to my place in Gusau and I made all arrangements to host her but she failed to come,” he said.
The case was first heard on May 23 but the defendant was not in court after being served.
On her part, the defendant, who was represented by her counsel, Mr Mubarak Kabir, explained that his client was not sure of the authenticity of the sermon hence her absence.
He said her position as a celebrity which attracts different kinds of people with different intentions made her more vigilant regarding her safety and security.
Kabir prayed to the court to give him more time to be able to bring his client to court.
The judge, Malam Rilwanu Kyaudai, adjourned the matter to June 13.
Similarly, two men, Efe Sylvester and Ahmed Abdullahi were also docked in an Upper Area Court Karu in Abuja for allegedly personating and extortion.
The police charged Sylvester, 57, and Abdullahi, 25, who are residents in the FCT Area of Abuja, with criminal conspiracy and personation of unlawful seizure, Assault, and extortion.
The prosecution counsel, Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that the complainant sent one Collins Michael of Wuse 2, Abuja to help her change the tyres of her new VW transporter truck before it would be registered.
Osho said that a few minutes after, the complainant received a call from the said Collins of being arrested by the Abuja Municipal Area Council at Banex junction, Wuse 2.
According to Osho, on getting to the scene, it was discovered that Sylvester conspired with Abdullahi by personating themselves to be AMAC staff.
He said the defendants seized the said vehicle from Collins and that the vehicle does not have AMAC papers.
He added that when the complainant tried to explain to the staff that the truck was newly purchased, the defendants assaulted her by hitting her on the chest.
Osho said during inquiries from the public on the true identity of the defendants, it was discovered that they were not AMAC staff and that they have always been extorting money from members of the public.
The prosecutor said the matter was reported by Lota Eze, of no 44 Monronvia Street Wuse 2 Abuja.
He said the offence contravene the provision of Sections 97, 132, 265, and 295 of the penal Code.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Judge, Hassan Mohammed, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100, 000 each and one surety each in like sum.
Mohammed ordered that the sureties must provide an affidavit of Kingship, and a statement of account and must be reasonable and reliable.
He adjourned the case until June 22, for a hearing.
