Today marks another historic and defining moment in the democratic journey of our great party, the African Democratic Congress, ADC, as registered members across wards, local governments and states participate in the presidential primary election process. This exercise is far beyond the selection of a candidate, it is about shaping the future direction of our nation and reaffirming our collective commitment to democracy, responsible leadership and national transformation.
At this critical stage in Nigeria’s history, our country requires a leader with experience, vision, courage and a deep understanding of governance. The numerous challenges confronting the nation today demand more than political slogans or emotional sentiments. Nigeria requires leadership founded upon competence, national unity, economic understanding and the capacity to inspire hope, confidence and progress across every part of the federation.
It is for these compelling reasons that I passionately appeal to registered members, stakeholders and party faithful across the country to support and vote for His Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as the presidential candidate of our great party. Atiku Abubakar remains one of the few Nigerian political leaders with vast administrative experience, national acceptance and a consistent commitment to democratic growth, economic reforms and national integration.
Over the years, Atiku Abubakar has continued to advocate policies centred on economic revitalisation, youth empowerment, restructuring, educational advancement, private sector growth and inclusive governance. His practical understanding of governance and economic management places him in a strong position to provide the purposeful leadership capable of restoring confidence, stability and national progress in Nigeria. Nations rise when visionary leadership meets collective determination, and Nigeria cannot afford to miss this defining opportunity for renewal and rebirth.
Beyond politics, Atiku Abubakar has consistently demonstrated resilience, political maturity and an enduring belief in democratic principles. His ability to engage people across ethnic, religious and regional divides reflects the spirit of inclusiveness and national cohesion which Nigeria urgently requires at this defining period of our national existence. Leadership is not merely about occupying office, it is about possessing the vision, character and experience necessary to guide a nation towards peace, prosperity and stability.
However, as we participate in this primary election, it is equally important to remind ourselves that internal democratic exercises should strengthen our unity rather than create unnecessary division. Elections within a political party are not battles between enemies, they are contests among partners pursuing the same collective objective of national service, democratic advancement and electoral success.
Party members, supporters and stakeholders must therefore conduct themselves peacefully, responsibly and with utmost maturity throughout this exercise. We must avoid inflammatory statements, bitterness, hostility and actions capable of weakening the bond of brotherhood, togetherness and mutual respect within our great party. Political ambition should never be allowed to destroy the unity and harmony we have collectively built over time.
Regardless of individual preferences or personal interests, every member of ADC must remember that the strength of any political party lies in its unity, discipline and shared sense of purpose. At the conclusion of this exercise, there must be no winners or losers within our ranks. Rather, there should be one united political family committed to the greater cause of rescuing Nigeria and building a better future for generations yet unborn.
As democrats, we must continue to place the interests of the nation above personal ambition. Nigeria today stands at a crucial crossroads, and the decisions we make now will shape the future of our democracy, economy and national stability for many years to come. This is the time for wisdom, maturity, sacrifice and collective responsibility. The future of millions of Nigerians depends greatly on the quality of leadership and direction that emerge from this process.
May this presidential primary election strengthen the unity of our party, deepen internal democracy and produce a credible candidate capable of inspiring hope, rebuilding confidence and leading Nigeria towards peace, prosperity and national rebirth. May wisdom, fairness and peace guide every stakeholder throughout this exercise, and may our great party emerge stronger, more united and better prepared for the enormous task ahead. History will always remember those who placed national interest above personal ambition, and may ADC rise today as a symbol of democratic maturity, unity and renewed hope for a greater Nigeria.
