Anambra Assembly passes law to conduct LGA elections

Anambra, May 30, 2024 – The Anambra State House of Assembly on Wednesday at passed a bill for a law to establish Ananbra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) and for Connected purposes.

The executive bill had scaled through second reading on June 28, 2023 after the law makers made several contributions on the gains of the bill and its importance towards the conduct of local government election in the state.

During the Plenary which was presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, the House resolved to the committee of the whole where the law makers took their turns to go through the bill clause by clause making necessary amendments and corrections.

The Speaker, while reporting progress, commended the members for taken their time to do the needful and for contributing towards building a better Anambra state.

According to him, the bill when assented to, by the governor will set the ground for the executive arm to take steps towards the conduct of local government election in the state.

Speaking, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Chukwuma Okoye said the bill no doubt will assist the working governor to conduct local government election which will in turn bring more development to all the 21 already government areas of the state.

According to the Deputy Speaker who represents Awka South constituency 2, Gov. Chukwuma Soludo have proven to be different from other politicians by promising and taken necessary steps towards conducting the grassroots election which have not been done in the state for a long period.

The eletoral bill which was passed will come into effect on June 5, 2024 after the governors Assent.

The House adjourned till June 4 for futher legislative activities.
