Awka, July 2, 2024 – Absence of suspects and the prosecuting State Counsel, CV Ononye-Ekwerekwu, stalled the commencement of legal fireworks over the murder of Chief Silas Onyima, the President-General of Umuoji community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anàmbra State.

When the matter came up today for hearing, Justice Alexius Okuma, noted the absence of the suspects in the Court and stepped down the matter for another case to give them chance to come.

But when the suspects were still not in court for the trial of the case, the Judge asked that the matter be mentioned, after which it was adjourned.

FC Abadom Igweike who stood in for the prosecuting State Counsel, Ononye-Ekwerekwu could not go on with the matter since the prosecuting counsel was absent.

But Justice Okuma adjourned the matter to July 19, 2024 for hearing to commence.

Six suspects were arraigned for the murder of PG of Umuoji Community. They are Okechukwu Igwe, Makua Igwe, Okeke Echezona, Chibuike Asimole, Mmodu Arinze Kingsely and Uroko Jonathan Chukwuemeka.

Mrs Elizabeth Igwe, mother of the two of the suspects had called for a fresh investigation into the murder, saying that her two sons, Okechukwu and Makua Igwe have no hands in the murder.

She asked the Police to interrogate Mr Emeka Eneghu,
the Personal Assistant (P.A) to the PG, to find out what he knew about the murder of his boss.

She alleged that her son Makua told her that Eneghu brought in a bag to him which he said belonged to late Chief Onyima in the night of that incident and told him to hand it over to Chief Onyima’s elder brother, and never mention his name as the one who brought the bag.
