Agocares Foundation for Persons with Disabilities says plans are underway to commence distribution of free artificial limbs to 300 amputees in Anambra State to restore their mobility.

Mrs Gloria katchy, Chairperson of the foundation told Newsmen on Sunday in Awka, that amputation is a serious issue that have stolen the joy and livelihood of many amputees.

Katchy said that the free artificial limbs would help them regain mobility and function in the society.

“The cost of an artificial limb is expensive, costing about N950, 000 to N1.8million, which is unaffordable to the less privilege.

“Many of them use crotches and wheelchairs which is cumbersome, and it is deterring them from living a normal lives. The artificial limbs function almost as perfectly as the limbs that have been lost.

“Our Foundation will commence measurements for amputees in Anambra state on Tuesday, Feb. 20 and 21 at the Disabilities’ Right Commission at the Women Development Centre, Awka,”he said.

Katchy said there would be counseling and education about limb loss to deter stigmatisation of amputees.
