Mr Yinka Ogundimu, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Agege, Lagos State, says the defection of two party aspirants to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) will not affect the party’s fortunes.
Ogundimu, a former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, said this on Monday at a news conference in Agege on behalf of APC stakeholders in the area.
Chief Ganiyu Egunjobi, immediate past Chairman of Agege Local Government and an APC aspirant for the Lagos State House of Assembly, recently defected to the APM.
Egunjobi defected alongside Mr Azeez Yusuf, a former APC aspirant for the Agege Constituency II seat.
Ogundimu said the duo had picked APM tickets to contest the Agege State Constituencies I and II seats, respectively, in the 2027 general elections.
“We wish to state categorically that their defection will never have any negative impact on the party.
“We want to assure the party leadership that we will deliver all our party candidates in the next elections,” he said.
He assured the APC leadership and members that stakeholders in Agege would mobilise support for the party’s candidates in the 2027 elections.
Ogundimu said APC stakeholders remained committed to mobilising votes for President Bola Tinubu, Gov. Obafemi Hamzat, Sen. Idiat Adebule and Mr Mudashiru Obasa.
He also expressed confidence in the party’s candidates for the Agege State Constituencies I and II seats, Mr Oluwagbenga Abiola and Mr Shakiru Enimakure, respectively.
“We were not surprised by the defection as rumours about the intention of the two former party members had spread in the locality before they took action.
“We remain steadfast and committed to mobilising massive votes for APC candidates in our Federal Constituency,” he said.
Ogundimu, however, urged the APC leadership in Lagos to investigate the circumstances surrounding the defections and take appropriate disciplinary action where necessary.
He also called for the immediate resolution of pending reconciliation and harmonisation issues affecting the party structure in Agege Local Government and Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area.
The former lawmaker urged the party leadership to address concerns over supervisors who were yet to be sworn in at the local government.
He further called for the identification and removal of members involved in anti-party activities, urging that such members should not participate in the party’s 2027 election planning.
“We have implicit confidence in the leadership of the Lagos State APC and hope that it will take appropriate action on our requests,” he said.
