Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned what he described as selective enforcement and politically motivated actions by the nation’s anti-corruption agencies.
On Friday, he specifically criticized the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), describing the agency as “partisan” following reports of a failed attempt to arrest former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, at an airport.
According to reports, ICPC operatives allegedly moved to apprehend El-Rufai, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and the commission has yet to release a detailed official statement clarifying the situation.
Atiku, however, stressed that institutions like the ICPC must operate strictly within the bounds of the law and remain neutral, regardless of political affiliations.
The incident has since sparked debate across political circles, with supporters and critics weighing in on the implications for Nigeria’s anti-corruption framework and the independence of its institutions.
