Civil society groups have called for an urgent security investigation into the alleged attempted murder of prominent Nigerian master of ceremonies and political critic Osagie Daniel Idedia, popularly known as MC Porkupyne.
Idedia, a vocal critic of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Edo State and an opponent of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, was attacked late Friday, Oct 23, in Benin City.
Activists and local advocates have linked the assault to heightened political tensions in the state, noting that Idedia had recently spoken out against deteriorating infrastructure, including roads within the Government Reservation Area (GRA).
Comrade Ikhuenbor Felix Igbinevbo, a public-interest advocate who issued a statement on Sunday, urged Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo to move beyond rhetoric and demonstrate a zero-tolerance policy toward political intimidation and cult-related violence.
The statement called on law enforcement agencies to investigate allegations involving top state political figures, including APC Edo State Chairman Jarret Tenebe, his deputy Sylvester, and the Governor’s Special Adviser on Protocol, Daniel Eromosele.
“No political office or proximity to government should place anyone above the law,” the statement noted, demanding the immediate identification and prosecution of the perpetrators.
Neither the Edo State government nor state police authorities had immediately responded to requests for comment on the allegations.
