Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen was able to leave the hospital on Monday after a hiking accident.
“He is doing well. However, he will take things easy for the next few days on doctor’s advice,’’ his spokesperson told the Austrian news agency APA.
The 78-year-old had tripped and fallen during a hike on Sunday afternoon and suffered a mild concussion.
He was taken to hospital where he spent the night on the advice of doctors.
Van der Bellen would run for a second term in office in the coming elections on Oct. 9.
In other news, the first German soldiers intended to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank would arrive in Lithuania at the beginning of September.
“The provisional date is Sept. 8, but there could still be some movement,’’ Lithuanian Defence Minister Arvydas Anusauskas told the BNS agency.
According to the report, a command element will be part of the new contingent.
In the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Western defence alliance decided to strengthen its eastern borders.
The existing NATO battle groups there were to be expanded to brigade level.
Germany is to lead a combat brigade with 3,000 to 5,000 soldiers in Lithuania, including weapons, ammunition and command staff on site.
The majority of the soldiers would however be kept in Germany.
The existing NATO battalion in Lithuania with about 1,600 soldiers has been operational since 2017 and was led by the Bundeswehr.
