Wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has described voluntary blood donation as one of the simplest yet most powerful acts of compassion and humanity.

Soludo who stated this in a message on Sunday to commemorate the 2026 World Blood Donor Day, urged eligible individuals to donate regularly to help save lives.

World Blood Donor Day,
marked every June 14, is to raise awareness and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood.

The year’s commemoration had the theme – “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives”.

The governor’s wife celebrated the selflessness of blood donors and highlighted the critical role they play in supporting healthcare delivery.

She said every unit of blood donated represented hope for patients facing medical emergencies, mothers during childbirth, accident victims and individuals battling serious health conditions.

“As we mark World Blood Donor Day, we celebrate selfless individuals who give a part of themselves to save the lives of others.

“Blood donation remains one of the simplest yet most powerful acts of compassion and humanity,” she said.

Soludo noted that this year’s commemoration underscored the need for healthy individuals to donate blood regularly to ensure a safe and sufficient blood supply.

According to her, voluntary blood donors are true heroes whose generosity continues to make a difference in countless families and communities.

She added that blood donation not only saves lives but also strengthens the healthcare system by ensuring that critical support is available whenever it is needed most.

Soludo encouraged all eligible individuals to become regular blood donors, stressing that collective action could help build a culture of compassion, solidarity and shared responsibility.

“Together, we can build a culture of compassion, solidarity and shared responsibility for one another’s well-being.

“A single donation can save multiple lives, and there can be no greater gift than the gift of life,” she said.
