Lagos, Aug.11, 2023: The first game of the 2023 English Premier League season between Burnley and Manchester City starts tonight August 11, as the two familiar faces lock horns.

108scoop.com reports that the game has been tagged by many as Champions vs Champions showdown.

The reigning Champions begin their latest top-flight title defence against 2022/2023 Championship winners (Burnley) at Turf Moor.

The treble winners who are vying to win four consecutive top-flight titles, never been achieved before in the English Premier League history will hope to secure all three points against the Clarets after their defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield.

Coming from a historic season of winning everything before them in the domestic league and lifting the Champions League trophy for the first time, Pep players will be hoping to build on that success and hopefully try to make history by winning the Premier League again.

The newly promoted Burnley no doubt will try to make a statement of intent right from the blast of the whistle as they look forward to battling it out with the treble winners and possibly salvage a point in front of their fans at the Turf Moor stadium, which was a fortress in the championship last season, a ground they only lost once in 2022/2023 season.

Burnley, who are known for their attacking philosophy under Vincent Kompany’s reign will be hoping to give the blue half of Manchester a run for the title and challenge City’s dominance in today’s match.

Going by history, one can easily conclude that it is going to be a walk in the park for the reigning Champions, but Kompany knows better and could prove a point that they have come to stay in the elite league and not just make up numbers. Burnley Vs Manchester City, kickoff time: 8:pm
