Nteje, Anambra – An auto-accident at the popular Tarzan junction, along Nteje-Awka-Onitsha Expressway in Anambra, has claimed the life of a conductor.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, confirmed the accident in Awka on Thursday.

Irelewuyi said the accident, which occurred at about 4:30p.m., was caused by a tyre burst.

He said the accident involved a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number, WKR 824 XA.

“According to eyewitnesses, the driver lost control of the loaded truck as a result of tyre burst and the vehicle fell across the road.

“Two male adults, the driver and his conductor, were involved in the crash. The driver sustained some injuries while his conductor died on the spot.”

Irelewuyi said “before the arrival of FRSC rescue team, Ogidi Police Division personnel had taken the corpse of the conductor to the morgue.

“Traffic control is ongoing, while the loaded goods on the truck have being offloaded,” he said.

While commiserating with the family of the dead, the Sector Commander urged motorists to ensure that their tyres are in good condition before hitting the road.

He also emphasised the importance of spare tyres on all vehicles.
