The Catholic Diocese of Warri has suspended Rev. Fr. Daniel Oghenerukevwe from his priestly duties after reports revealed he married Ms.

Dora Chichah in Dallas, USA, on December 29, 2024. The marriage, which was widely shared on social media, led to the church’s action.

A statement signed by Bishop Anthony Ovayero Ewherido and Chancellor Fr. Clement Abobo declared, “By this action, Fr. Oghenerukevwe has incurred a Latae Sententiae suspension in accordance with Canon 1394 S1.”

The priest had earlier requested to be released from his canonical obligations but proceeded with the marriage without completing the required process.

The Diocese stressed that Fr. Oghenerukevwe is now prohibited from presenting himself as a priest and must show a willingness to reform if he wishes to petition for the revocation of the suspension.
