A Political Analyst and Renowned Industrialist, Dr Anthony Ofoma, has said that a political coalition can check the drift to a seeming one party system presently in Nigeria.

Ofoma made the declaration on Thursday in Abakaliki while reacting to the gale of political defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)).

The renowned industrialist said that a formidable coalition such as the one APC posed in 2014, can check moves towards a monolithic political environment in Nigeria.

“This will still provide Nigerians opportunities of interacting and making diverse opinions through a formidable political force.

“This development will ultimately be good for Nigeria’s democracy in the wake of teething challenges confronting it.”

He noted that despite misgivings about the calibre of persons in the present coalition, it can still prove doubters wrong by forming a genuine and united front.

“Most Nigerians see members of the coalition as perhaps, disgruntled over the treatment they received in the top political parties in the country.

“Feeling disgruntled is not bad but the coalition members need to shelve personal interests and project a collective front that would make people believe in it.

“The task will definitely be herculean but if they sincerely put their acts together, they would achieve results such as the coalition in 2014.”

Ofoma urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the country but see elections as veritable opportunities to “right every wrong’.

“The notion of putting money first above conscience put us in this condition and every four years affords us the opportunity to have a rethink.

“Nigeria is a blessed country with great potentials and whenever we get the leadership right, everything would fall into place.”
