The entire community of Umuafai area of Ndume, Ibeku in Umuahia East constituency area of Abia state was agog on Monday, following an unscheduled visit by the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate, Sir Innocent Nwachukwu in continuation of his consultation within the area.

The driver of the YPP vehicle for the Umuahia East 2023 House of Assembly seat, Nwachukwu was accorded a warm reception by the entire Umuafai community.

The YPP hopeful candidate in continuation of his ward round consultations was hosted to an interactive section by a progressive grassroots structure which comprised of both the indigenes and non-indigenes residents in Umuafai community.

While welcoming the candidate, Mr Chinedum Onyekwere, leader of the group said they were extremely delighted to receive Nwachukwu in their midst, saying that the visit was what they have been craving for since the candidate threw his hat to the ring to contest for the Umuahia East state constituency House of Assembly seat.

Onyekwere praised Nwachukwu for his resolve to join the race, affirming that the YPP candidate’s good reputation and track record of philanthropic work would pave the way for his emergence at the polls.

He, however, assured him that the people of Umuafai had already thrown their full weight behind his candidature, believing that he would bring his wealth of experience to bear when he finally mounted the house of Assembly seat.

In his response, Nwachukwu told them that he had not come to campaign, saying it was not yet time for that, but had come to rejoice with them in celebration of the New Yam festival.

He assured them that better days lie ahead for all the communities in Umuahia East constituency come 2023.

“God is about to do a new thing for communities in Umuahia East constituency  in 2023,’’ Nwachukwu said, adding that power had returned to them by virtue of the new electoral guideline, a development, he said, had strengthened people’s confidence in the electoral processes.

According to him, the new electoral guideline has made the populace believe that their votes will count in the coming elections.

He called on the people to be very sensitive as the election period approaches, encouraging them to ensure that they exercise their franchise by coming out to vote for the right candidates who would lead them right in various levels of political leadership.

Nwachukwu, however, warned them to beware of false politicians who would come to them in sheep’s clothing’.

“Inwardly they are ravening wolves who are only after their votes but have no plans for the people at the end,’’ he added.

He promised that his vision for the house of Assembly seat would be to change the narrative by bringing governance closer to the people.
