Following a tip-off, Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KSCPC) on Tuesday confiscated 487 bags of expired flour worth millions of Naira in the state.

The acting Managing Director of KSCPC, Alhaji Baffa Babba-Dan’agundi, made this known in a statement issued by the council Spokesman, Musbahu Yakasai, in Kano.

Babba-Dan’agundi said that the council was informed by ‘some good citizens’ about the expired flour which was brought to Dawanau International Grain Market, Kano.

He stated that the flour was confiscated, following the raid carried out at a warehouse situated at Dawanau Market, Kano, on Sunday.

“We confirmed that the flour had already expired after a laboratory test of some samples,” he said.

Babba-Dan’agundi added that the council also confiscated many cartons of expired drinks at Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi Market, Sabongari, Kano.

He further explained that the expired flour and the drinks were evacuated and taken to the council’s warehouse.

The acting managing director called on the general public to always check on products’ information before using them.

“The council will not relent in its efforts at curtailing the importation and selling of unwanted products in the state,” Babba-Dan’agundi said.

Similarly, the Police in Edo, on Tuesday said they shot and killed a notorious armed robbery suspect, and recovered one pump action gun and five live cartridges in a gun duel in Benin.

The Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) ASP Jennifer Iwegbu stated this in a statement in Benin.

Iwegbu said the operation followed a distress call to the Divisional Police officer in charge of Ugbor division that there was an ongoing armed robbery operation along Abuja quarters by Benson Idahosa University, Ugbor GRA, Benin.

“The DPO personally led operatives to the scene with the aim to arrest the suspects.

“On arrival at the scene, the suspects on sighting the police engaged them in a gun duel.

“However, the superior firepower from the police operatives neutralised one of the suspected armed robbers.”

Items recovered from the suspect included one pump action gun and 5 live cartridges.

She said that effort was ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members.
