Former NIMASA DG/CEO Dr Dakuku Peterside will deliver the 2026 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council Annual Lecture during the council’s Press Week.
Peterside, a leadership architect and management turnaround expert, will speak on the theme, “Politics, Ports and the Public Interest: The Media’s Catalytic Role in Driving Economic Growth.”
The former Director-General/CEO of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) will examine the link between ports, politics and the media.
He will also ask whether the media can help Nigeria achieve a trillion-dollar economy.
Peterside is widely regarded as a leading voice on the blue economy and public policy. His work covers leadership, governance, public policy and organisational transformation.

The 2026 NUJ Lagos Press Week will run from Monday, September 28 to Sunday, October 4, 2026.
The annual lecture will hold at 10:00 a.m. at the Radio Lagos/Eko FM Multipurpose Hall, LTV Complex, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.
The council has scheduled several activities for the week. Chapel Rendezvous will hold on Thursday, October 1, at 4:00 p.m. within the LTV premises.
The Juma’at Service will hold on Friday, October 2, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lagos State Secretariat Mosque, CBD, Alausa, Ikeja.
The Gala and Awards Night will also hold on Friday, October 2, at 4:00 p.m. at the BOS Hall, LTV Complex, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja.
The Press Week will end with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, October 4, from 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Christ the Light (Interdenominational), CBD, Alausa, Ikeja.
However, the NUJ Lagos State Council, in a statement signed by its chairman, urged journalists across the state to attend and take part actively in the week’s activities.
The council said the Press Week will give media practitioners an opportunity to network, exchange ideas and strengthen professional ties.
It also said the event will celebrate journalists’ contributions to the growth and development of society.
The 2026 NUJ Lagos Press Week is expected to bring together media professionals and stakeholders.
The council said journalists will use the gathering to celebrate shared values, promote unity and renew their commitment to responsible and professional journalism.
