DAME invites entries in 22 media categories

Entries for works produced in 2022 are currently being received by the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME).

It is the 32nd Call since DAME held its first edition in 1992.

The entries are in five broad areas: Reporting, Commentary, Documentary-Drama, and Aesthetics, and Overall prizes.

REPORTING has 13 prizes: Business Reporting, Child Friendly Reporting, Education Reporting, Health Reporting, Insurance Reporting, Investigative Reporting, Judicial Reporting, Lagos Reporting, Niger Delta Development Reporting, Nutrition Reporting, Radio Reporting, Sports Reporting, and Television Reporting.

COMMENTARY has 3: Editorial Cartooning, Editorial Writing, and Informed Commentary.

DOCUMENTARY-DRAMA equally has 3: Radio Drama, Television Drama, and Television Documentary.

AESTHETICS, 3: Best Designed Newspaper, Best Media Website, News Photography.

OVERALL AWARDS (3): Child-friendly Medium, Newspaper of the Year, Editor of the Year.

DAME scores the Reporting entries on the strength of how well they conform to DAME’s ABCADER principle of Accuracy, Balance, Contextual Analysis, Depth of Research, Engaging use of Language, and Relevance of the Subject.

Entries in the Commentary categories (Editorial Writing and Informed Commentary) will be judged on the basis of the Essential Sextets: Subject, Substance, Significance, Structure, Style, and Size while emphasis will be placed on effective use of Art and Copy in Editorial cartooning.

Aesthetics will focus on how Art illuminates editorial presentations, whilst the overall prizes reward the performances of the news organisations in all categories considered. The entries close on September 20, 2023.

Cash prizes, work tools such as laptops, plaques, and merit certificates are some of the reward incentives winners will receive in December.

DAME operates on the premise that the media remain an important pillar of Democracy and Development, which require special attention and support if they are to fulfill their role. (BookArtville)
