The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Ebonyi chapter, has rued the rising insecurity across the country as the it celebrates Easter.
The Ebonyi NYCN Chairman, Mr Douglas Ochishi expressed the concern on Sunday in Abakaliki while addressing newsmen, noting that the involvement of youths in crimes was regrettable.
Ochishi urged Nigerians to use the Easter celebration to reflect on the sanctity of life as Christ paid for our lives and salvation with his own life.
“The gruesome carnage in Jos, Plateau, the killing of a traditional ruler in Ebonyi among others as we prepared for Easter, are heart–wrenching.
“The Palm Sunday incident in Jos occurred on a day that should have been sacred for peace and sober reflection but was ultimately turned into a day of grief.
“The nation was still reeling in the grief when gunmen killed a Traditional Ruler in Ebonyi, as many in recent times.”
The NYCN state chairman urged security agencies to rise to their responsibilities as Nigerians are tired of mourning and excuses.
“Security agencies must thoroughly nvestigate the incidents, apprehend those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice without delay.
“No nation can bleed this way and expect progress, as we owe the dead justice, the living protection and the future generations, a safer country.
“The NYCN Ebonyi chapter mourns with affected families and communities and urge Nigerians to use the Easter as a period of healing and promotion of peace.”
He urged youths in particular, to remain law abiding and shun acts that would incense insecurity in the country.
“Any youth or individual who takes a life he did not create, is devilsh and does not deserve to live.
“Youths should avail themselves of the life-changing packages of the federal and state governments to be useful to themselves, their families and the society.
“They should fulfill their civic responsibilities of obtaining their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to elect good leaders who would continue making them relevant.”
