The Vice Chairman-elect of Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi, Mrs Chinyere Egwu, has pledged that the incoming council leadership will pursue people-oriented policies and programmes.

Egwu, who won the August 22 council poll alongside the incumbent Council Chairman, Chief Timothy Nwachi, said she would support the chairman in delivering democratic dividends to the people.

She said Afikpo LGA had recorded rapid growth under Nwachi’s tutelage. Furthermore, she said she felt honoured to contribute to the area’s economic and infrastructure transformation.

“I want to assure the people that we would justify the confidence reposed in us for continued creation of positive impact on their lives,” she said.

Egwu said the large turnout during the election showed the people’s confidence in Nwachi’s ability to sustain the legacies of his first tenure.

She thanked Governor Francis Nwufuru and his wife for believing in women’s ability to contribute to social change and development.

“We have two female chairmen-elect and all the 13 LGAs have women as their vice-chairmen-elect,” she said.

According to her, the development showed that the present administration was gender-friendly and recognised the role of women in society.

She, however, thanked the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi for giving her and other women a platform to contribute to governance.

“We pledge active mobilisation of the people to vote for all APC candidates during the 2027 general elections,” she said.

She also thanked the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) for the peaceful and smooth conduct of the council polls.

“The democratic will of the people prevailed and such accounted for APC’s landslide victory at the polls,” she said.

The APC, it will be recalled, won all 13 chairmanship and 171 councillorship seats during the polls.
