Abakaliki, Nigeria – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ebonyi on Thursday, said it will check challenges of intelligence gathering through proactive implementation of community policing networking.

The State Commandant of the corps, Francis Nnadi, made the assertion in Abakaliki, noting that all community segments would be involved in the networking.

Nnadi described the corps as the most indigenous oriented security outfit, saying that its operations are embedded in its motto: ‘defending the defenceless’.

“Our operations cut across every part of the state and country as our quick response mantra brings security to people’s doorsteps.

“Our networking ensures that citizens participate actively in community policing by seeing and saying something at the right time.”

The state commandant remarked that the networking will reinforce people’s confidence in those saddled with the responsibilities of protecting their lives and properties.

“Many people are no longer free to provide vital security information following fear of victimisation and possible attacks.

“The NSCDC has, however, synergised with other security agencies in the state to restore this confidence due to the vital nature of such information.”

He charged traditional rulers, town union leaders and youth organizations across communities to be part of this networking to achieve adequate security for all.

“Community stakeholders know every locality, bushes, farmlands among others in their domains.

“Nature abhors vacuum so when these farmlands and bushes are not monitored, they turn to hideouts for unscrupulous elements.

“Our networking system only requires vital information at the right time and we would respond proactively”

Nnadi described the recent gunmen’s attack on an Ebonyi community as a carnage, noting that steps have been taken by relevant authorities to prevent a repeat.

“We have briefed the commandant general on the development and he has given his directives while also, motivating us.

“The state governor has also supported security agencies on the issue and has shown great commitment to ensure that such does not repeat.

“We implore the people to fully embrace community policing as it remains the surest way of protecting lives and properties, especially at the grassroots,” he said.
