Elder statesman and President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, would be buried on November 1, Arise News reports.

The chairman of the National Committee, Senator Ben Obi, stated this in an interview with Journalists in Abuja on Tuesday night after setting up the committee of stakeholders hosted by the chairman of the South East Governors Forum (SEGF) and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma.

*The National Committee for the burial of our great leader, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the immediate-past President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has been constituted. The whole idea is to give him a very befitting burial that his status deserves”, Uzodinma said.

Obi described Iwuanyanwu as a global citizen and nationalist whose contribution to national development is legendary.

He said, “We recognize the support of the chairman of the South-East Governors Forum and the other governors of the South East.

“They have given us confidence that this committee will be given all the necessary support.

Iwuanyanwu was a global citizen. Needless to talk about his commitment in Nigeria as the whole. In every aspect of human endeavours you talk about, Iwuanyanwu excelled and ended up his service to people at an elderly age.

“The sacrifices he committed to the Igbo nation is something that is admirable by all of us and it is our decision as a people, in collaboration with other associations like Afenifere, PANDEF, Middle Belt Forum, Arewa Consultative Forum to make sure that we give him a befitting burial and we are grateful that Uzodinma has made it available for us to meet.

“They have agreed with the Primate of the Anglican Church that he will be buried on November 1. We will ensure a befitting burial.”

Born on September 4 1942, Iwuanyanwu, a Nigerian politician, businessman and Publisher of Champion Newspaper was considered one of the richest Igbo men in Nigeria.

Iwuanyanwu was, until his death on July 25 2024, the 11th President-General of Ọhanaeze Ndigbo and preceded by Prof. George Obiozor.
