Organised labour under the aegis of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Kwara State on Monday joined their counterparts across the country to picket the state office of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

They also stormed  the offices of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company(IBEDC) in Ilorin, the state capital to express the continued increase in the electricity tariff in the country.

Among the IBEDC offices visited by the union leaders  and their members includes  Challenge, Babo-Oko and Ita-Alamu Amareas all within the Ilorin metropolis.

The chairman of NLC , Comrade Murtala Olayinka and his TUC counterpart, Comrade  Olayinka Onikijipa  who led the struggle maintained that the masses can no longer breath as a result of the outrageous hike electricity tariff across the country informing this move to picket the Commission.

The Union leaders stated  that, the ugly development was inimical to the economic growth of the country.

They condemned the perceived attitude of the NERC and IBEDC for not reversing the hike in electricity tariff for teeming Nigerians.

They added that, the hike in electricity tariff  has also  brought untold hardship to electricity consumers in the country.

They therefore called  on the federal government to compel the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and other relevant agencies to  reverse the hike in the electricity tariff  so as to bring new lease of life to the people of the country.
