The Energy and Maritime Reporters (EMR) in the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Tuesday announced a partnership with the management of the Rivers State Television (RSTV) to promote awareness in the maritime sector including oil and gas, and blue economy.
According to the group’s Chairman, Mr. Martin Giadom, the agreement was a fallout from the courtesy visit of the EMR members to the General Manager of the RSTV, Amb. Paul Dangbor.
Giadom said, “At the visit, EMR was asked to provide point men and a proposal to facilitate the kickoff of the programme.
“The EMR thus nominated Elder Ignatius Chukwu and Mr Martin Giadom (Chairman) to pursue the project as point men. The point men submitted a proposal which was accepted.”
According to him, the collaboration has led to the creation of a one-hour programme on GOtv channel 142 on RSTV to be known as Energy and Maritime Focus to begin Feb. 24 at 10 a.m.
He added, “The first episode is expected to feature Elder Chukwu and Mr. Giadom to throw light on the latest developments in the Energy Sector, especially the Executive Order 9 signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which has ordered all revenue from oil to be moved into the Federal Government Account before any deductions. The programme will examine the likely impact on oil & Gas host communities.
“The focus will also examine the coverage of energy and maritime reporters in the Niger Delta and the relationship with major oil corporations and maritime institutions by media houses in the region, including the obstacles.”
Giadom said that “the programme, which is open for sponsorship, would be anchored by Ibigoni Kalio, with full backing of the head of programmes, Miesia Temeye Bobmanuel, and the General Manager, Amb Paul Damgbor. “
He urged all EMR members and professional colleagues to support the programme to make the partnership a success.
He also assured that top industry players would feature on the programme to educate the people and residents of the oil-rich region on issues in the Energy and Maritime sectors.
