Enugu State has witnessed a substantial decrease in crime rate over the past 20 months, with the state government attributing this success to its collaborative efforts with security agencies, corporate organizations, and citizens.

In a recent speech, the state governor highlighted the transformation of Ogui Road, a once bustling commercial hub that had become desolate due to the “sit-at-home” order imposed by a criminal gang. The governor noted that the area has regained its vibrancy, with businesses reopening and night life flourishing .

The state government has invested heavily in security measures, including the establishment of the Enugu State Command and Control Centre, a round-the-clock surveillance system, and a Distress Response Squad. Additionally, a fleet of 150 security vehicles equipped with AI-enhanced cameras has been deployed across the state.

To sustain these efforts, the Enugu State Security Trust Fund was launched, with a target of N20 billion for this year. The fund aims to mobilize resources from public and private sectors, as well as individuals, to support security initiatives and provide a safer environment for citizens and investors.

The governor emphasized the importance of security in driving economic growth and development, stating that “security and development have become inextricably intertwined in the world that we live in today.”

Recently, the Enugu State Security Trust Fund raised N3 billion from individual and corporate donations, demonstrating the commitment of stakeholders to supporting security efforts in the state .
