London – Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League with an entertaining 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Sunday.
Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead from the penalty spot after 29 minutes and the home side were awarded another penalty just minutes later when Robert Sanchez brought down Curtis Jones.
The penalty was overturned after a video review, however, with Chelsea then equalizing after the half-time break, with Nicolas Jackson racing clear to beat Caoimhin Kelleher.
Liverpool took only three minutes to restore their lead, however, with an outstanding hit from Jones.
The win continues Arne Slot’s sensational start at Anfield, with the Dutchman becoming the first manager in Liverpool’s history to win 10 of his opening 11 games.
Manchester City scored a late winner at Wolves to move ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
The Premier League has been on hiatus for a fortnight owing to the international break but top-flight football resumed with City aiming to keep pace at the top of the table.
Pep Guardiola’s side are unbeaten in all competitions this season and now face seven games in three weeks in three different competitions ahead of the next international break.
